Sleeveless Shirt Dress

Sleeveless Shirt Dress

hi, i'm jen from online fabric store. today i'm going to show you how to make your own tank top with a zipper in the back. these tank tops are great for layering and are comfortable to wear in the summer. so let's get started. the materials you'll need are: 1 yard of challis fabric, i'm using black/white cara ethnic rayon challis fabric, a 7 inch closed end zipper, thread, fabric scissors, ballpoint pins, and a ruler. first, fold the fabric in half. place the center front pattern piece along the fold line and pin around the pattern. place the back pattern in the center and pin.

this pattern is not on the fold because there will be 2 separate pieces for the back. cut out both pattern pieces and remove the pins. unfold the front piece and place the right sides of the back pieces on top of the front. the right sides should be facing each other. make sure the shoulders and sides line up correctly. pin the sides and shoulders. then measure down 8 inches from the top of the back. from here pin the back pieces together and stitch with a 1/4 inch seam allowance. snip a half inch just before where the stitching starts.

the first 8 inches on the back seam should not be stitched. stitch the sides and shoulders with a 3/4 inch seam allowance. for the shoulders and sides, start 1 inch in and leave 1 inch at the end. back stitch at the beginning and the end. for the sides and shoulders, fold the fabric over 1/4 inch twice and pin. stitch along the fold. for the back, fold the seam allowance over 1/8 of an inch twice, pin, and stitch. fold the tank top to the right side. starting with the armhole, fold the fabric over a half inch twice and pin.

do the same for the other armhole. for the neckline, make 1/2 inch snips on the curve. fold the edge over 1/2 inch twice, pin, and stitch. first, trim off the top of the zipper. fold the edge of the fabric over a 1/2 inch twice. pin along the edge of the zipper. make sure your zipper foot is on for stitching. do this for both sides. fold the bottom over a 1/2 inch twice and pin.

stitch with a 1/2 inch seam allowance. your tank top is now complete. linen and cotton are also great choices to use. i chose to use a pink zipper to give this tank top a pop of color. thanks for watching this ofs project.
